I started with the city of Akon in 1985 as a garage attendant under Ray Kapper taking care of the administration vehichles. I did that for two years, then I moved to the highway maintenance division in1987 as a semi skilled laborer, where I did everything from guardrail and fence repair, to patching, to building streets and mowing grass on the expressway. I did that for seven years, and then moved to the street cleaning department as an operator 3. I have been there ever since.
I have been a steward as well as chief steward in both highway and street cleaning and sat on the board as a trustee when Joe Asher was president. This is a new adventure for me as president, and I hope to do the job you voted me in for.
Originally from the “Volunteer State” born in Nashville, TN, I am divorced and the proud father of three children. My education has been through Akron public schools – graduating from Akron South High in 1977. Go Big Blue Cavaliers!
As an aspiring student I enrolled at Kent State University in Kent, Oh where I was very eager to begin a work career and earn some money. After two years of feeling broke, I was fortunate to land a job with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., in the winter of 1980, the #1 tire manufacturer in the world. I reached the level of senior collector with 15 years of service in the Metro Credit Center in 1995 before a changing economy led to “cut-backs”.
My career in the workplace changed several times over a five year time period. I felt a need to grow my skills as our society began to change, so I learned to sell ads with Black Pages of Cleveland, Oh. I performed outside sales with AirTouch Cellular, trained as an assistant store manager with Holland Oil, and my most exciting and thrilling line of work has been with S. D. Myers as a Regional Transformer Consultant performing sales/service duties – traveling the east coast…YES!

My interest/hobbies include: registered high school basketball official, American Red Cross donor, participated on Save Our Sewers Issues 8 & 9, former Sanitation Chief Steward and current Trustee of AFSCME Local 1360. When I am not busy, I love traveling the USA, my grandchildren, Cleveland Cavs, cookouts and living life!
